Who can sign this petition?
Only voters who are registered in the city of West Hollywood.

What would this initiative do?
It would make investigations, citations, arrests, property seizures, and prosecutions for adult marijuana offenses the City of West Hollywood’s lowest law enforcement priority – allowing police to focus on serious and violent crime.

In addition, it would establish a city policy supporting changes in state and federal laws that call for taxation and regulation of (legal) adult use, cultivation, and distribution of marijuana.

Will this mean that more marijuana gets into the hands of kids?
NO. The measure only covers adult marijuana offenses. Selling marijuana to minors is illegal and laws against it would still be enforced under this initiative.

How will this new law be enforced?
West Hollywood’s Public Safety Commission would be responsible for monitoring marijuana arrests made by the police to ensure compliance consistent with the lowest law enforcement priority policy.

Will this cost the city money?
No. In fact, this measure will save money by reducing the amount of time and resources that the sheriff’s department and county courts are tied up dealing with nonviolent marijuana offenses. This will free up important city resources for other important city services and allow the police to focus their efforts on violent and serious crime.

Who is behind this measure? How can I get in touch with them/find out more?
A local group called West Hollywood Civil Liberties Alliance is coordinating the effort.
